Calendar of Events

The latest Board of Directors Meeting was held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the
Eastman Contractor Training Center in Kingsport with several new Board Members in
attendance. The next Board meeting will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2018 at the
same location. Announcements will be mailed to all Board Members.

The latest Community Safety Awareness was held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at
the Eastman Lodge in Kingsport. Cari Parker, Eastman Vice President, Chemical Intermediates Acetyls Manufacturing and TNO Site Leader, was the guest speaker. Her topic was "Safety and Culture Are Inseparable". We also collected $396.00 donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Picadilly Restaurant in Kingsport. The speakers will be Lt. David Moore and Lt. Justin Quillen with Kingsport Police Department. The topic will be "Emergency Preparedness Critical Incident/Active Shooter Response, and A.L.I.C.E. Training Overview."

The KASC Seminar Committee has met twice this fall to begin planning the 2019 event. It is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 8 at the Eastman Employee Center. More information will be posted on our website as it becomes available.

The Halloween Treat Bag stuffing was held on Wednesday, October 25, 2018 at the Eastman Contractor Training Center in Kingsport. We filled over 1,000 reflective treat bags with goodies for distribution to area elementary schools. The bags were delivered on October 30 to local children. Thanks to all who participated. Special thanks to Patty and Bruce Lyttle for coordinating the stuffing and Cathy Salley and Sherry Tysinger for setting up the delivery schedule.

The Kingsport Police Department recently urged citizens to manually register cellular telephones for our area-wide Emergency Alert System. 2018 Award and Recognition Banquet ............ 2017 -2018 Year in Review

The 2018 Award and Recognition Banquet was held on Tuesday, September 18, at Domtar Cabin. This was a great evening of food, fun and fellowship. The 2017-2018 Year in Review displays several activities conducted by KASC during the Fiscal Year. President Randy Cassell spoke to most of these functions during the banquet. This meeting is also utilized to install the new Officers and Board of Directors for the 2018 - 2019 Fiscal Year. Welcome to our new Officers and Board Members.

The 2018 KASC 33rd Annual Safety Seminar was held on Wednesday, May 10
at the Eastman Toy F. Reid Center in Kingsport. This year's event was highly
successful thanks to the superfluous efforts of the seminar committee, speakers,
vendors and volunteers. Special thanks to Mark Spencer and Dana Taylor for
their leadership in making this seminar a success.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10am, the Kingsport Area Safety Council participated
in the National Safety Council's Recertification Ceremony for the Safety Communities of
America Program. The Tri-Cities area was recently reaccredited for this prestigious honor,
so Carrie Nye from the National Safety Council presented this award at the Kingsport
Higher Education Center in Kingsport. Several mayors and county officials as well as many
representatives from local police, fire, EMS and industrial entities were in attendance.

On Tuesday, October 24, 2017, members of KASC met at the Eastman Contractor's Facility
to stuff 1,000 treat bags with candy and other goodies to include glow sticks. In partnership
with the Junior Achievement, these bags were delivered to three local elementary shcools and
distributed to students by KASC and JA representatives on October 26. Special thanks to
Bruce and Patty Lyttle for collecting the candy and organizing the stuffing activities. Also
thanks to other KASC members who worked with Junior Achievement to arrange the school
deliveries and Mike Livingston for ordering the glow sticks. This was another successful event!

The 2017 KASC Annual Banquet was held on Thursday, September 21 at the Domtar Cabin in
Kingsport. President Randy Cassell resided over the meeting with a brief review of this year's
events. Carol Jones received the Swanson Pendleton Memorial Award for Outstanding Service,
and Mike Livingston received the Guy Eisenberg Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 2017 - 2018 Vice Presidents and Board of Directors
were nominated and elected. Thanks
to Brenda Lowder and Pearl Dotson for coordinating the dinner and decorations. Also thanks
to Domtar for their support of this event.

In August 2017, Domtar in Kingsport, TN received the Tennessee Governor's Award of
Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health. They recently completed over 1 million hours
worked without a lost time incident. Carol Jones, Randy Cassell and Mike Livingston
represented the KASC at this celebration event. Congratulations to Domtar!!!

KASC sponsored a Fun Fest Event on Saturday, July 22, 2017 in Kingsport. Several members and volunteers conducted a DUI Simulation Course, Battle of the Ball Event, and also supported the Civitan Tricycle Races.

In June 2017, Mike Livingston presented a check from KASC for $500 to Hardee's in support of the "Stars for Heroes" program for military veterans. Mike also presented an appreciation plaque to Hardees for their support of the 2017 Kids Safety Fair.


Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton presents a Christmas benevolence check for $250 on behalf of the Kingsport Area Safety Council to Lay Leader Steve Wells at Shades of Grace Church to support their Homeless Ministry. Several other local organization were given donations of the same amount by KASC in support of community benevolence programs.


On Tuesday, October 25, KASC members stuffed 1,000 reflective Halloween Treat Bags that were distributed to local youth through local schools and churches. Junior Achievement personnel managed the distribution schedule, and KASC members assisted in delivering the bags to local schools. Thanks to all


On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen presented a special proclamation in recognition of Safe Communities America Day. On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton revealed a plaque at the Kingsport Justice Center commemorating this significant achievement. KASC was actively involved in this program is is honored to be a sponsor.

On Thursday, September 22, KASC's Annual Award and Recognition Banquet was held at Domtar Cabin in Kingsport. An excellent meal was provided and President Randy Cassell gave an overview of events from the past 12 months. Bruce Lyttle was presented the Swanson Pendleton Outstanding Service Award for his exceptional contributions to our council. New Officers and Board Members were also selected for the upcoming year.

On Saturday, July 23, KASC presented several events for the Kingsport Fun Fest. We partnered with the Kingsport Civitan Club to provide Trike Trial for different age groups. We also provided a Battle of the Ball water event for children and the young at heart. A mini Bucket Brigade was conducted to remember how fire fighters originally extinguished fire. Tom Patton and Dustin Jackson with KPD along with several KASC supporters provided a Drunk Driving Simulation Course to promote safe driving awareness. Thanks to all who came out to support these events.

Mike Livingston presented a check for $500.00 from KASC to Jane Manis, General Manager of the South John B Dennis Hardees in support of "Stars for Troops" program.

The Annual Kids Safety Fair was held at the Eastman Toy F. Reid Employee Center on Tuesday, May 10. KASC supports the Eastman Contractors Safety Partnership in providing safety training to approximately 400 children from local elementary schools.

The 31st Annual KASC Safety Seminar was held at the Eastman Toy F. Reid Employee Center on Wednesday, May 11. Over 400 attendees attended this year's event. Thanks to all who worked so dilligently to make this event successful. Also thanks to our vendors and door prize sponsors. This year's recipient of the $1,500.00 Junior Godsey Memorial Grant was Elk Mills POGA VFD.

On Monday, May 16 KASC provided 10 CO/Smoke Detectors, 30 dual sensor Smoke Detectors and 10 fire extinguishers to the Habitat for Humanity Office in Kingsport. Pictured is Alanna Leonberg, Gene Faxon and Art Pierce. This safety equipment will be utilized in habitat project houses during the 2016 summer season.

The Annual Halloween Treat Bag Stuffing was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Eastman Contractor's Safety facility. 1,000 bags were stuffed and distributed to local schools and churches. Special thanks to the Junior Achievement of Kingsport and KASC partners. See photos here.

KASC/ Eastman Contractor's Safety Partnership make donation to Hardee's in June 2015

On Thursday, May 21, 2015, KASC donated equipment to the Habitat for Humanity in Colonial Heights for their home building projects throughout this summer.


On Thursday, May 21, 2015, the Kingsport Area Safety Council hosted a picnic at the Eastman Cabins in Kingsport in celebration of our 70th Year Anniversary of the estabishment of our council. We also celebrated the 30th Annual Safety Seminar that was held on Wednesday, May 13th at the Eastman Toy F. Reid Center in Kingsport. Special thanks to Angel Vicars for coordinating and preparing the meal.

The 2015 Kids Safety Fair was held at the Eastman Toy F. Reid Employee Center on Tuesday, May 12th. Several hundred fourth graders from area elementary schools attended a day of safety training sessions that highlighted safety issues related to their age group. KASC and other vendors provided booths for the students to attend throughout the day. See photos on the Kids Safety Fair page.

On behalf of the KASC Christmas Benevolence Program, Tommy Hughes of Kingsport City Services presented a check to the Children's Advocacy Center. Apostolic Lighthouse also teamed up with KASC to provide a luncheon for the Salvation Army. More projects were completed prior to Christmas.

Halloween Treat Bag Giveaway



On Wednesday, October 22, 2014, several KASC members stuffed 1,000 Halloween treat bags that were distributed to local youth for promoting safety. Several companies provided candy and toys for use in this project.
